When I read this story the first thing I thought was, if this was to happen in the U.S. the media would have a field day about it, the players would be judged by religious zealots, and like everything else it would somehow become a political issue. This is why I say cheers to Germany! There is something to be said about a country with the resolve to take bold measures to address obvious problems while the rest of the world debates them. The home of companies that continue to lead through engineering rather than advertising and dubious dealings. The birthplace of soccer clubs who stand for authentic moral values. This story is about a country that is comfortable in its own skin. Thank you Germany, the world has a lot to learn from you.

The 2011 Women’s World Cup could not have end up on a better note. Yes it would have been nice to see the U.S. win. Instead we witnessed one of the most awesome underdog stories in soccer history.
A resilient Japan managed to come back time and again by capitalizing on every mistake the U.S. made. They fought for every ball every minute of the match. It is hard not to draw parallels between this team’s resolve in the face of adversity, and that of the Japanese people. This victory could not have come in a better time for Japan.
That is not to say the U.S. did not live up to expectations. They dominated most aspects of this match. It is almost as if no matter what the Americans did destiny would somehow favor Japan one way or another. This American team is deserving of every recognition previous teams have enjoyed. This is a team that consistently shows up to win matches. If there was a prize for the most exciting match of the tournament the winner would no doubt be a match involving the Americans. Good work!
