The New York Cosmos Hype Continues

The New York Cosmos marketing machine continues to make waves across the American soccer landscape, this time with the announcement in Times Square that former Manchester United star, and French actor Eric Cantona has joined the club as Director Of Soccer. Cantona is the second biggest name that has joined the organization, after Pele.

Too much hype for a club without a team you say? That is a fair argument. But the way I see it this new Cosmos brand, with its history and nostalgic appeal has the potential to be the most formidable rival to the team named after an energy drink. This is marketing genius at its best. I can’t wait to find out some of the names of who will be wearing the Cosmos jerseys.

If you care to read more about the Cosmos hype, the hate, and the hypster factor check out this analysis by the main man S.F. over at The Offside Rules.
